To understand what artificial intelligence really is, one must know what is intelligence. Intelligence means acquiring knowledge and to develop skills. To make decisions depending upon the situation and current need. Basic example from our daily lives is the road we take to any destination. At time we plan our route and drive as planed. We may encounter some kind of a road block or traffic. Depending on the situation we take decisions. We take a different path to reach our destination. This act of making decision is based on the knowledge you had about some alternate route that you may take to your destination.

Applying the same definition of intelligence on a computer system, then we define artificial intelligence as the ability of a computer to perform tasks that require human intelligence such as perception, reasoning, learning, decision making, or understanding language.

Difference between Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

AI refers to the development of computer systems and algorithms that can perform tasks intelligently. While machine learning trains algorithms to make predictions and decisions based on large amount of data. In doing so machine learning enables computers to learn and improve their performances.
