Web Cache

Web cache is a network entity that deals with HTTP requests on behalf of origin web server. The web cache has its own storage and it keeps copy of recently requested objects in that storage. A web cache is a client and a server both at the same time. It receives requests and sends responses in doing so it works as a server. When it sends request to and receives responses from origin server then it is acting as a client. Web cache is also known as proxy server.

Web caching can reduce the response time for a client request, especially if the bottleneck bandwidth between the client and origin server is much less than the bottleneck bandwidth between the client and the cache.
